Traffic – The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys

★★☆☆☆ = Eh, fine

Sounds like?

70's rock with a rhythmic Latin element, soulful, long prog rock structures

Moods

Light up or leave me alone

Thoughts

I've saved a few tracks to playlists but this isn't the type of thing I plan on revisiting much in the future. The title track is well regarded by critics. It's good, especially through its composition and phases, but a long one at almost 12 minutes.

Something always feels a little square with Traffic records, can't put my hands on it. Might be the flute. Still hard to deny their ability and this has that 'classic' sound that only this era can produce.

Owane – Yeah Whatever

★★☆☆☆ = Eh, fine

Sounds like?

jammy prog rock with nu-jazz chops

Moods

guitar wanking

Thoughts

Progs not really my thing. I admire the technical prowess on display ( this album is impressively precise) but it lacks heart and songwriting. It veers heavily into wanky jammy stuff, making music for the sake of making music; not sure what purpose it serves.

There are moments and talent but I think you can find a better album to turn on.

Michael Shrieve,Kevin Shrieve,Klaus Schulze – Transfer Station Blue

★★☆☆☆ = Eh, fine

Sounds like?

A group of guys playing 'grandiose' 80s new age synthesizer

Moods

Welcome to the machine

Thoughts

I felt I spent most of the album waiting for something to happen. Things finally kick-in on the title track and gets a nice groove going.just not something I really feel like revisiting as a whole

Tropical Fuck Storm – A Laughing Death In Meatspace

★★★☆☆ = Good!

Sounds like?

Dense heavy psychedelic punk

Moods

Protesting

Thoughts

Distinct heavy rock with astute protest lyrics. Perhaps too dense for regular listening, I appreciate what's happening here. It's groovy and biting with a passion that's executed well.

The Alan Parsons Project – I Robot

★★★☆☆ = Good!

What’s it sound like?

Well crafted prog rock, technical and theatrical.

Thoughts

There’s a vision here that’s very well done. This is the engineer for Dsotm and Abbey road. The writing is top notch with everything feeling in order. Overall it can be a bit over the top and I like tracks like breakdown which are more straight ahead rock. The voice has a really amazing break, with a funk and string duality (a combo I typically dislike) composed to perfection.
