Tracks ranges from good to great. She's bursting with emotion and it's hard not to feel something from these songs. There's an overall richness to her songs and productions that's very seductive and appealing. Might be the emphasis from the piano or use of strings. Her voice too: feminine but deep and satisfying like red wine on a cold night.

Criminal is a great track but it other places I found myself wanting more in lyrical content. Carion is a perfect closer, a track about her leaving a lover and instructing them not to look for her. Just like that the passionate night is over.

The title track stands out but the rest I thought was just ok, good from a post-bop perspective.

Great instrumentation, especially Morgan's trumpet playing, so it's hard not to enjoy if you're into jazz.

True to the name, this is art that captures a disillusionment and fear

Thoughts
A fantastic record that succeeds in creating the atmosphere it sets out to create. The sampling is top notch and on par with the greats of the era. The lyrical delivery can feel dated but i need to spend more time with the album to see if it resonates.

80/90s post-bop.

Thoughts
Typically not as raw as I like my jazz, reminds me of WBGO (local NYC jazz), but the playing is tight and maintains a pleasant groove. Album highlights:

* Aaron’s song, an interesting piece of songwriting that repeats somber piano and sax melodies.

* Dreams, a lazy swaying melody kicks things off into an intense set of solos.

Solid record.

What’s it sound like?

Textural guitar noodling by Young

Thoughts

It’s kind of unfair reviewing this as its a soundtrack but whatever, doesn’t really work as say standalone album. Half of it is corny dialogue that’s skipable. The 6 guitar solos are interesting on a superficial level but nothing very memorable.

Though it’s a watered down version of Trip-hop, and Tracey’s lyrics are missing the wit found on their earlier albums, it’s still a solid collection of sad break-up songs from this lovely duo.
